Yes, I’ve been away from the keyboard for a bit since my last post. No excuses, no explanations other than the unavoidable fact that life often intervenes when least expected.
Reading of an excerpt from the short story A Little Hike, by author S. Michael Wilson (that’s me), at the Visiting Authors Series held at Warren County Community College.
This past Thursday, April 21, I was fortunate enough to take part in the Visiting Authors Series at Warren County Community College. While every year the Visiting Author Series strives to bring one or two authors to the campus for a public reading of their work to wide audience (attendance is always free of charge), once a year the evening is filled with literally dozens of talented authors and poets presenting their works. Among these contributing authors was yours truly, who was given the chance to read two short works of creative nonfiction to the assembled crowd, Fireside Chat and A Little Hike.
Once a year, the event also acts as a release party for the school’s Art and Literary Magazine, Ars Poetica. Hosted by Professors B.J. Ward and Brian Bradford, and Ars Poetica Editors-in-Chief Angela Chiu and Peace Mazelis, this meeting of the Visiting Authors Series included appearances by WCCC students and winners of the WarrenCounty High School Fiction Contest, whose work appears in the 2011 issue of Ars Poetica. The newest episode of the MovieSucktastic Podcast is up, just in time for all of those movie-lovers snowed in across the East Coast. This time around, on top of our normal Top Ten review and Finger List nominations, Joey and I give our in-depth reviews of the latest round of movie challenges.
Joey’s challenge to me this episode: the 1969 Ken Russel adaptation of D.H. Lawrence‘s Women in Love, one of the first mainstream films to ever feature full frontal male nudity, as well as the first film to win a Best Actress Academy Award for a role featuring a nude scene. That’s right, you get to see Glenda Jackson‘s boobies. Unfortunately (for me, at least), Oliver Reed and Alan Bates get much more nude screen time.
